Can I ride with the modular helmet's chin guard open?
Only if the helmet has dual P/J (Protective / Jet) homologation, recognizable by the marking on the ECE label. For modular helmets only approved P, riding must be done with the chin guard closed and locked. This information should always be checked before purchasing.
Does a modular helmet protect as well as a full-face helmet?
No, not at the same level. The flip-up chin guard has joints and cannot offer the same rigidity as a fixed chin guard. For intense road use and touring, it's an excellent compromise; for track and long daily highway use, a full-face helmet remains the most protective choice.
How often should the opening mechanism be checked?
You should check it at every change of season: the chin guard should close with a clear click and not open accidentally due to vibration. If you feel abnormal play or resistance during opening, do not use the helmet and have the mechanism checked at a workshop or authorized dealer.
