Motorcycle Tank Accessories: guide, tips, and frequently asked questions
The three attachment systems
The flange attachment replaces the fuel cap screws with a dedicated ring: it is the most stable and cleanest, but it is model-specific. The magnetic attachment can be put on and removed in an instant, but it requires a steel tank and must be used with a protective liner underneath. The strap attachment works on almost anything and is the universal choice.
Beware of paintwork
Any bag placed on the tank will abrade the paint if sand gets underneath. Adhesive protective films are inexpensive and solve the problem at its root.
Frequently asked questions
Does a magnetic tank bag ruin the tank?
Not the magnets themselves, but the dirt that gets trapped under the base. Clean the base and the tank before each installation and use the provided protective cover.
Are flange bags universal?
No: the flange screws into the fuel cap holes, and that design varies from bike to bike. The bag, however, remains the same and detaches from the flange with a rotation.
Can you refuel without removing the bag?
With the flange attachment, yes, by only detaching the bag. With straps or magnets, the entire bag must be removed.
How many liters are needed?
For daily use, 4-6 liters are sufficient, holding documents, a phone, and spare gloves. For travel, this increases to 15-20 liters, often with an expandable base.
Are they waterproof?
Some are waterproof as standard, others have a rain cover to place over them. The product page for each model specifies what is included.
