How do I know if my visor is Pinlock-ready?
Look inside the visor: if you see two small metal or plastic pins on the left and right, near the center, the visor is ready. Many mid-range and high-end helmets come standard with Pinlock-ready visors; on basic models, it's often not present and the entire visor needs to be changed.
Does the Pinlock lens wear out?
Yes, but it lasts for years. The silicone that keeps the lens adhered to the visor can dry out with use, and the inner surface can scratch if cleaned improperly. Signs to replace it: it loses adhesion at the edges, shows visible scratches even when clean, or the anti-fog effect significantly reduces.
How to clean it without damaging it?
Only with lukewarm water and a clean microfiber cloth. Never use paper, dry cloths, aggressive detergents, or alcohol. A rinse under the tap removes dust and residue before using the cloth: this prevents dry particles from scratching during cleaning.
