Panniers and Top Cases
Motorcycle top cases offer the convenience of carrying a helmet, groceries, a bag, and spare parts. Here you'll find Kappa and Givi top cases in capacities of 30, 35, 40, 46, and 52 liters, with the Monolock system for scooters and small motorcycles and Monokey for medium and large motorcycles. A universal plate is often included, with red or transparent reflectors depending on the model, to hold one or two full-face helmets.
Top Cases: Guide, Tips, and FAQs
Strengths
- Universal plate often included – check the product description to avoid separate purchases
- Capacity stated in liters – not vague terms like "medium" or "large"
- Holds 2 helmets – for 46-liter top cases and above, standard full-face helmets
- Reflectors – red, transparent, or smoked depending on the top case finish
Important notes
- An oversized top case on a small motorcycle will affect handling.
- Do not exceed the maximum weight limit declared by the manufacturer: typically 3-10 kg.
- The plate should be attached to the frame, not plastic: mounting on overly fragile luggage racks is dangerous.
How to choose the capacity
- 30 — One jet helmet, daily groceries, urban use
- 40 — One full-face helmet, work bag
- 46 — Two jet helmets or one full-face + items
- 52 — Two full-face helmets, long touring
Perfect for whom
For those who regularly carry a helmet and bag and no longer want to strap them to the luggage rack with bungee cords. It's also the choice for those riding two-up who need space for two full-face helmets. First, check the specific mounting plate for your motorcycle or scooter in the Top Case Accessories section. Frequently asked questions
Is the plate always included?
Often yes, but not always: in the top case description, we indicate whether the universal plate is included in the package or needs to be purchased separately. In many cases, it includes a universal plate, but a specific mounting kit for your motorcycle is needed: always check both elements before ordering.
How much weight can I put in the top case?
Each top case has a maximum limit declared by the manufacturer, typically between 3 and 10 kg. Exceeding this can lead to the plate detaching due to suspended loads on the luggage rack. The ideal weight for good cornering behavior is under 5 kg for small motorcycles, and 7-8 kg for large motorcycles.
Does the top case affect handling?
Yes, more noticeably on small motorcycles and at high speeds. Above 120 km/h, a large empty top case can cause the motorcycle to wobble. At urban speeds and on medium-to-large motorcycles, the effect is minimal. Choosing a capacity proportionate to the motorcycle is key.
