Until what age can I take my child on a scooter?
In Italy, the Highway Code stipulates that the passenger must be of an age and stature that ensures a stable position on the footrests and a secure grip on the handle. This assessment is up to the parent. In any case, an approved helmet appropriate for the head size is mandatory.
Is a full-face or open-face helmet better for a child?
For the same size, a full-face helmet offers more protection in case of a fall but is heavier and can be uncomfortable on long journeys for small children. For children under 5-6 years old, many parents choose a lightweight open-face helmet for comfort; from 8 years old onwards, it's advisable to switch to a full-face helmet.
Can a child's helmet be inherited from an older sibling?
Only if it has never sustained significant impacts and is less than 5-7 years old from the manufacturing date. The internal polystyrene loses its absorption capacity over time. If the helmet has been dropped or shows signs of wear, it's better to replace it: the cost of a new replacement is worth the child's safety.
