Frequently asked questions
How do I know if the air filter needs changing?
Open the filter box and visually inspect it: if the sponge filter is black, dry, and collapses under finger pressure, it needs to be replaced; the paper filter should be changed when it changes color and appears greasy. If the scooter responds poorly to the throttle or consumes more than usual, start here.
Do I need to change the carburetor or is a gasket kit enough?
If the carburetor is mechanically sound but leaks fuel or doesn't idle, a gasket kit is almost always sufficient. If the body is corroded inside or the needles are damaged, it's better to replace it. On Ape and vintage vehicles, the overhaul kit solves 90% of cases.
Are aftermarket filters good?
On daily-use scooters, a quality aftermarket filter does the job without problems. On collector vehicles or vintage carburetors, the original filter often has specific shapes, thicknesses, and treatments that clones don't reproduce: in this case, it's best to stick with the original.
